Bio
Warning: Unlike most dj bios, my bio won't tell fluffed up stories of how the planets aligned and electronic music came down from the heavens and blessed my soul. It also won't go into overblown detail of who's played at the same events I've played at, or to to wheel out the tired cliche "who I've played along-side with." It also won't be written in the third person; that will only happen if I actually progress to a point, or create some kind of scandal where someone feels the need to write about me.
Simply put, I absolutely, without any doubt love electronic music and after five years of figuring out how to mix tracks together tracks at home then eventually events and club nights, I can say now I'm actually pretty good at being this thing called a dj.
Since I've engulfed myself into this music and the scene that surrounds it, I've gone from driving my wife and neighbours bonkers with countless hours of practice to now having been lucky enough to have played at quite a few great events in various locations. Everything from Shambhala and Motion Notion here in Canada, to the desert madness that is Burningman, all the way to the warm beaches of Cabo San Lucas and beyond to the clubbing capital of the world, Ibiza, Spain. Coinciding with that, my mixes can also be heard around the world online on one of the best stations out there, XTCRadio.com.
Crazy, where a love for a certain type of music can take you.
Along the way I've met a lot of great people and even better friends. I've had and shared in experiences that are unforgettable and unimaginable to people like my parents. I've also started and continue to help run this site you're now on, Area709, which continues to blow-up on a daily basis. I'm pretty much that typical work hard/play harder guy that can be seen dancing his ass of with a smile on his face to pretty much anything good that is playing. But don't come up and start a conversation about the meaning of life, because I won't be able to answer you.
Crazy, where doing something with the music you love can take you.
As far as style goes, I generally gravitate towards anything progressive, house or trance, but have developed a twisted alter-ego for a plate of driving psytrance. Top that with a sprinkle of marshmallowy epic trance and I can pretty much bring the smorgasboard to the table at anytime. Hell, I've even started playing ambient and downtempo out of pure necessity; and I like it.
Crazy, how much great music there is out there that many people are oblivious to.
Where am I at now? Currently doing the following:
Holding down a successful monthly residency at the Amsterdam Rhino here in Calgary. Working with other 709 members as well as promoters to put on our own events and open up other opportunities. Sitting down with Logic, Cubase and a bunch of software plug-ins trying to figure out the whole world of music production and actually create something that sounds good.
All of this while running my own marketing and communications company during the day. It's no wonder my wife thinks I'm nuts and that I do too much. I love it and that's why (don't worry sweetie I still love you more!!)
