Well, where to begin? Sons of Aurora are a dynamic duo (Norris Lam and Darvin Knorr) who both are enthusiastic dancers, inspired djs and aspiring producers that are passionate about life, the outdoors and most of all our family and community.
Our fanatic interest for electronic music was first propagated from the ether of the Calgary electronic music scene in the late 1990s. After crossing paths in 1999 (Darvin was chasing Norris girlfriend you say?!?!), the two of us realized quickly how well we got along and have over the years formed a very close, intense and loyal friendship. Together we have explored and enjoyed those crazy electronic beats, talking forever about the nuances of tracks... breaking down and building up what we feel are the key ingredients to the music that inspires us.
In the beginning (musically speaking) our record collection had a primary focus on Psytrance and atmospheric Drum and Bass (worlds apart, we know). Over the years, we have both discovered the same elation from other genres of music, such as Progressive Psytrance, Breaks, Psydub, Ambient/Downtempo and IDM. Our own explorations of the various forms of expression through music such as movement, djing and now producing, have allowed us to understand the need to create a space where people are free to express their innermost beings while sharing our journey of textured sounds, unique rhythms and a whole lot of ass shaking fun.
It has been a journey indeed.
There was a time when music was everything to both of us, but people grow and change and it is now after a period of re-establishing ourselves in our personal lives as powerful and productive people that once again our energies are turning toward playing and increasingly towards producing our own work. The love we feel for each other as friends and the joy and amazement we feel every time we play in front of a crowd is infectious and can not be contained. It must be said that we get the cuties dancing to be certain, up front and center, and we plan on spinning records and chasing girls until we are old and grey.....or is that spinning girls and chasing records? Hmm... it is all good. =)
We are Sons of Aurora.
