Norris: Inuit for "The man from the North."
This is quite suiting as I've found myself in many northern communities in Canada. I suppose this has influenced who I am in all aspects of my life. Independant, silent with extremes of light and darkness but I'm not cold blooded!
Personally, I love winter! I get excited for the first snowfall when all the trees are covered in fresh snow and they sparkle like a chest full of jewels! Snow angels make me feel like a kid again (every single winter). And if you live in Canada and hate winter, you're in the wrong country! For me I'm in the right country!
Ok, to the bussiness.
My musical history began with the clarinet in elementary and continued on through high school. This is where I fell in love with melodies. Mostly I was blown away by how these textured sounds could influence the very essence of my mind and spirit. I can recall playing pieces of music over and over again, to the point of inner tears, because I wanted to hear those notes vibrating through my body.
My first exposure to electronic music was in 1997, while living in Jasper, Alberta. I was going to the bars to dance my nights away (so happened to be the worst snow year ever! So needless to say I was there alot!!) and there I had the occasion to meet a few amazing souls who "kidnapped" me and took to me to Chunky Soup II (People Under the Stairs). Anyone living in Calgary at that time (or anywhere in Alberta for that matter) can attest that it was THE best party, bar none. My first full experience was blessed by Space Time Continuum, Dekoze, Honey Mustard and many other djs (which I am still unknown to!?). I was hooked. Coincidentally, this is where I met many of my closest friends who would become my community of people!
Since then, I have danced countless kilometers in various cities, I have been involved in a few performances, helped with party logistics, party organizing (both house parties and the all night techno rave) and have played some pretty amazing events (both on my own and with Darvin as Sons of Aurora). These shared experiences gave me the opportunity to create community where I could grow and develop into who I am today. For that I am blessed.
Currently, my interests in music is quite varied. I started out playing atmospheric drum and bass, then went to psytrance and now I am focusing my DJ endevours in Psy-dub, downtempo, IDM and progressive Psytrance with my production in IDM style breaks. So really, I like crazy sounds!!!
Outside of musical endeavours I also create and design funked out clothes for multi-layered beings. I really enjoy using natural fabrics dyed in earth tone colours. I am hoping to start silkscreening this summer and incorporate another level of visual art into my clothing. I am extremely lucky to have a super creative group of people here in Calgary that I can share ideas and collaborative projects with.
