Description
It's hard to believe it's been nearly three years since Rob, Wes and I first came together in the basement of the Amsterdam Rhino. It's certainly been a good run - we've made a lot of friends, played a lot of records, and covered a lot of ground in a lot of ways. But, as they told me after I wrote my grade ten math exam for the third year in a row, all good things must come to an end, and so fortune has seen to that the good ship Pure.Prog has set sail for Balance Bay - but not after one last round of bassbin-bending bashes.
Presented here is "Now, More Than Ever", a mix inspired by the three amazing years Pure.Prog has had on 11th Ave. It starts and ends with live recordings made by yours truly during the night of my last appearance at the Rhino, and is filled in between with eleven big, warm, turn-up-the-volume tunes based on the sound I pushed during my time behind the controls there.
As the recording starts, I've stepped outside the Rhino for a breath of fresh air and switched my field recorder on - listen carefully and you'll find a world of detail captured from those waiting outside, from bummed cigarettes, to compliments on the sound system, to a story about a boy looking to meet a girl who wasn't looking to meet anyone, and plenty more besides. As the mix winds down 61 minutes later, the recording you hear to close out the mix is of me walking down the stairs into the basement, the recorder sticking out of my back pocket as I walk in to a room freaking out to one of Wes' legendary breakdowns.

If you're the audiophilic type, this one's worth a proper listen on headphones or a decent set of monitors - mixed from 100% never-been-lossy-compressed source WAVs, rendered at 96khz/24bit (even the field recordings were done at 96/24) and compressed directly to 320kbit MP3 with LAME 3.97. Thanks to Kev for the B&Ws and Rob for the 'compress straight from 96/24' advice.

Enjoy!
