Autumn into Winter

Wow, what an interesting two months it's been. The US election - now in full swing (godspeed Barack) - has certainly held my interest, as has the implosion of the global economy. Funny, but it seems Calgary's probably the safest place this side of Dubai to be in such uncertain economic times... if you don't count Ft McMurray, at least. Sure, people's stocks have tanked, but at least business here is still booming, and our nightclubs are still filled with cashed up cowboys and cowgirls.
Seven's been rocking lately, so much so that management has asked Rob and I to each take over and brand our own evening - Rob with Fridays, and me with Saturdays. Those of you who have been coming down on a regular basis to see us, this is likely good news, as you now know for once and for all when and where you can find us there. My first 'official' Saturday night is this coming one, so if you're in the mood to come have a boogie and help me christen the new night, by all means, come on down!
This coming Friday is a night I've been looking forward to for some time. For the first time since early summer, Wes and I will be rocking it steady downstairs at the Rhino, from 9pm to 230AM. I've got a heap of new tunes, and there's an even-better sound system down there, and as the weather gets colder that place really seems to heat up. Can't wait.
On the writing front, I had the privilege of interviewing Andy Moor recently, both for the lead dance music story for the November issue of BeatRoute, and for an in-depth feature article right here on Area709. We had a really interesting, wide-ranging discussion, and fans of Andy's are sure to learn plenty. Also interviewed for BeatRoute this month, Nick Thayer, a Melbourne institution who's coming to town to the Hi-Fi Bar in early November. Those in the know will be at that show, believe you me.
That's about it for now... I've been taking weekly guitar lessons from a very talented chap by the name of Ben - and all I can say is wow, I'm having a blast. Calgarians, if you've ever thought of learning guitar, this is your man. From the Xbox in the waiting room to the 'jam along with Tiesto' we've been doing at the end of each lesson, I'm turning into Eddie Van Halen one power chord at a time.
New mix is starting to take shape, too. Hoping to have it put together by the end of November.
