Almost Canada Day
Posted on Jun 29, 2008
Hello hello, just got out of the shower when I scraped off a half kilo of campfire soot. Spent last night camping up in the mountains outside of Banff, and spent this afternoon in the hot springs and lazing around at one of the glacial runoff lakes nestled between the hills. Amazing scenery - unfortunately I left my camera charger in Revelstoke.
Just put up the mix I did for Rob's podcast - but if you're the podcasting sort, the best place to find it is here.
Pretty pumped about the Ten Days of Ibiza that's coming up next week - Area709 head honcho Wes Straub will be opening up the main room at Tantra for Markus Schulz this coming Thursday, while the Thursday that follows I'll be starting the party for Mark Oliver, the guy behind Toronto's legendary superclub (#8 in the world according to this year's DJ mag poll). Mark's been Guvernment's Saturday night resident (10+ hour sets each week!) for nearly twelve years now - I suspect he'll be able to get things here rocking in a big way.
I interviewed Steve Helstrip of the Thrillseekers last week, had a great chat with him, and will be putting up an extended writeup of our conversation here, in the same vein as the writeup I did with Solarstone last month. Also, those of you who are into reading might like to read an interview (heh) with my good friend Ben Evans, just posted up on Australia's mega-dance-music website, inthemix.com.au. Ben and I partnered in creating the Interview parties in Melbourne, and since our humble beginnings in late 2005, Interview has become a household name among Melbourne underground dance music fans, having brought Andy Moor, Martin Roth, and Jaytech to town, as well as having been tapped to run the side room for pretty much every major dance party in the state of Victoria for 2007 and 2008. That interview is here.
Lastly, a very special DJ formerly from London, Ontario has just arrived in town. His name is Chris Allen, and in addition to being a very talented DJ (he just won a 'DJ of the Year' award in London) he's also the head of A&R and label management for Andy Moor's AVA Recordings label. (His website is here.) He'll be marking his arrival in style playing with me at the Rhino in four weeks' time - so mark your calendars. More info here once we've done the promo material up - but should be excellent. Welcome to Calgary, Chris!
