Two down, one to go
Posted on Jun 21, 2008
Well, its 7pm as I write this, but looking out my window you'd think it was two in the afternoon - Calgary's summers may be short, but they are sure nice... It seems we get 18 hours of daylight in the summer. To make up for the four or so we get during winter, I suppose.
Had a great time at Seven last night. Wes, Rob and I have been pushing a unique sound together for two years now, a bouncy - melodic - progressive - house sort of thing, and we've been really fortunate that the venues our residencies are at, Seven and the Amsterdam Rhino (hey wasn't that a Duran Duran album?), have given us the freedom to do so, considering that the easy money in this city is in chart-tastic cheeseball electro-house and Top 40. Sometimes I wonder how many people in the places I play even notice the music as it goes by. And so, it was nice to find this in my inbox this afternoon, from someone that had never been to Seven before last night, and to whom I handed a business card after getting a compliment on a tune.
"...just wanted to let you know that we're pumped that there's good music SOMEWHERE in Calgary - and none of that other bullshit (you know what I mean don't get me started)!"
Had a great time in Holt Renfrew this afternoon as well - they had a denim sale, so brought me in to play records to try on jeans by. Always a fun way to spend an afternoon, playing records to the young and fashionable in the smack middle of the city.
Slight change of plans for next weekend, I'm actually going to be back at Seven Friday night, rather than the Rhino. Reason being that I've got the Rhino to myself come July! Also as mentioned previously, I'm at Tantra the Thursday of Stampede alongside Mark Oliver
Ah well, into the shower then back down to Seven to do it all again.
