IAN SMITH: Hi Darvin, I think you'll find this amusing. Dana and I talked with Wes last night at the Rhino and I asked where the "709" in Area709 comes from. He told me that it was his apartment number where he lived when he first started DJing (I'm sure you know this).
What's interesting though, is that earlier in the week when Dana and I were watching "A Scanner Darkly" we noticed that the number "709" is actually seeded into certain scenes in that movie at least twice for some unknown reason (and we have no clue as to why).
The first scene where you see it is at the beginning when Arctor (Keanu Reeves) is giving his lecture to the Brown Bear Lodge, and Dana noticed in the background that the Brown Bear Lodge No. was, of course, Lodge No. 709!
Later in the movie, in a scene where Arctor is walking through the front door of his house, you can see that his house address number is clearly marked on his front door, and again the number of his house is - number 709!
Dana and did a quick google for "709" and couldn't find anything specific, just a design group called "Studio709" and a group of motorcycle stunt riders called "709Riders" and maybe a couple of other things like that. We don't think it is the telephone area code in these cases that is being referred to because area code 709 is in some obscure part of Newfoundland, as far as I can tell, and these groups were in places like California and elsewhere in the USA.
So there you have it, "709" must be some kind of mysterious occult number that makes itself known with a hidden subconscious significance that no-one actually understands yet.
Later! :)

IAN SMITH: Oh my God! I just 'discovered' yet another "709" right after sending this message out to you!
It suddenly occurred to me, that the TV science fiction show "Star Trek: Voyager", has a half-borg, half-human cyborg character in it (played by Jerri Ryan) named "Seven-of-Nine". "7-of-9". "709".
Wow! I think we may be onto something pretty interesting here...

JOSH JANUSKA: 23 Skidoo. ;)
Seek and ye shall find.

DARVIN KNORR: Ha ha yeah the mysterious 709.... it's an enigma I tell ya! Best to keep it that way otherwise it would loose it luster. =)
Hey I was going to say hello on Friday night, that place is odd for being so small and yet I don't move once I am in there, I stick to my one spot.
Will you be out for June 2nd?
If so see you then!
------------------------
WES STRAUB: It's also Newfoundland's area code (found that one out a couple years later!).

IAN SMITH: June 2nd is going to be great and I will be there!
