ABOUT 709SESSIONS
- by Wes Straub

I started the 709Sessions radio show back in September 2007 - broadcasting first on TribalMixes.org - with the goal of it being an outlet to explore the sounds of progressive music that I was truly into, without limits or conforming to any format. I had always loved putting together mixes and passing out cds to those who were interested, so committing to a monthly show that broadcasted to a potentially worldwide audience was the next logical step.

Since that time, the show would being picked up by ETN, InsomniaFM, the late DanceRadio and of course Digitally Imported, and the range of monthly guests would also expand from local friends to international talents. The audience continued to grow and the support was incredible. There were months where my energy for the show wasn't quite there, but knowing that there people out there actually listening (and swift kicks in the ass from my wife) kept me going every month.

Fast forwarding to now and the show is coming up on its 60th Episode, with a 12 hour broadcast on Digitally Imported featuring many of my favourite djs that have been on 709Sessions in the past. A lot has changed since that first broadcast, but the vision for the show remains the same - to showcase the best in progressive house and deep trance created by some of world's most talented and hardest working producers. As a fan of the rich sounds of the progressive genre, I can't think of a better way to show my true appreciation for it than through the show.

It's been a great ride that shows no sign of slowing down. Through 709Sessions I've been lucky to have made many friends, connected with other talented djs and producers and have even been booked for shows beyond Calgary - while musically staying close and involved with the sounds I love.

I invite all of you to come dance, drink and celebrate a journey that has been pretty awesome. An all 709 line-up has been assembled, including the old man himself, Rusty Ezard, flying out from Toronto to join us. The sounds will be anything from progressive to psytrance to whatever who's playing feels like at that time - it's wide open, and sure to be good as always.

We also have Plain Jane and Snailpainter on visuals duty, and Jay's crispy-clean, bass-rattling sound system ready to go. And (because everyone knows I like my beer), we have a cash bar serving cold drinks for most of the night.

Looking forward to seeing you all out for a very special Saturday. And if you can't make the event, here's some details about the 709Sessions show:
