Dusting Off The Crates...

Posted on Jul 23, 2008

Hey Y'all,

So, I spent Tuesday evening sorting through electrical cords, Christmas lights and weathered plastic bins covered in a thin coat of raver sludge.  Ah yes, the subtle joys of the outdoor party season.  Anyone who's ever spent a good part of an afternoon shoveling dirt out of a cube van, hauling speakers through sand on a beach or dodging falling scaffolding knows what I'm talking about.  Seriously though, I wouldn't have it any other way.

So, I'm psyched about two great parties coming up in August.   First on the list is Beheshto's annual outdoor party, Suluk, which is being held on Saturday, August 2nd in the Squamish Valley.  You can get more details and purchase tickets here:

http://www.beheshto.ca/

Fellow Area709 DJs Khan and Rob Curtis will also be playing with me at this event.  This is one of two parties I always attend in the summer and I always have a blast.  They're a great family to be a part of and I've always been blown away by the talent in this crew.  Expect to hear a great blend of progressive house, breaks and techno on one stage and then excellent downtempo beats in the chill tent throughout the evening.

It turns out we're also going to be neighbors with the Godizus psytrance party and the Water Woman event, a Burner-friendly party that weekend on the same general plot of land.  Wow.  That's a lot of sound.  I'm looking forward to wandering around, meeting some new people and being reunited with some old friends.  If you're already attending one of these events, don't be shy!  Come by and say hello, share a drink or a cup of tea come morning.

So, second up, the Soundproof crew has decided to hold a variation on their annual Trancemission party on Saturday, August 23rd.  We gave this event some careful thought, in light the past year's events.  We'll be placing updates - soon enough - on our webpage here:

As many of you may know, our dear friend, Martin Sikes pass away this Christmas past.  Martin was at Soundproof's helm for a number of years and his passing has left quite a void.  The crew deliberated for a while on whether or not we should hold another party this summer.  In the end, we decided to band together for a tribute of sorts.

Eleven years is a pretty amazing run for a DJ collective and I've always been amazed with the number of people that have Soundproof stories from the last decade.  I'm quite certain we'll manage a very loud, epic, irreverent send-off of sorts, just as you've always come to expect.  This is the last party for many of us, and we're aiming to make it a memorable one before we bow out.   I'll post back here with more details in the next week or so.  In the meantime, see some of you at the crags this weekend in Chek and others on the dance floor in Squamish Valley next weekend...
