On April 5th 2008 Area709 Records present progressive/psytrance artist SHADOW FX of Zenon Records Australia.

Come on out for one last Area709 night of world-class psytrance! Irena and Darvin will be wed this July and then are off to travel the world for a year and possibly more (WoooHoo!!) and as a result Area709 will be on hold in the all-night psy event realm.

This event will be a perfect era-ending night of killer tunes and truly wonderful people... that being all of you!

SHADOW FX (Zenon Records, Australia) - Live Set!

Shadow Fx was created in 2002 by 26 year old James Hays from Melbourne, Australia. James started his musical career studying and playing drums and guitar in high school. Then at the age of seventeen he discovered psytrance in and around the famous trance hotspot of Byron Bay. After listening to and Dj’ing the music for several years, he decided to move to Melbourne and make a serious effort to put his own mark on the scene. He bought a computer and started to produce full time, leading him to the smooth and refined sound for which he is known today. In recent years he has played at many parties all over Australia including Rainbow Serpent, Earthdance and Audiogasm. He has also released compilation tracks on ZMA and Zenon, plus on Cosmic Conspiracy records with his brother Tetrameth. Shadow Fx has created a smooth blend of deep, funky, morning progressive that is distinctively shaped from the Zenon sound. In 2007 he released his debut album Direct Influence on Zenon.

After testing their duo laptop performance skills at last summers Motion Notion, Shambhala, Burning Man and Symbiosis festivals, Darvin and Norris are aiming to converge 8 stereo channels of music out onto the dance floor. Taking advantage of technology and blurring the lines between the realms of the DJ and the live act the Sons of Aurora will be embracing the potential of a 2 x 8 performance.

JAY MICHAEL (Area709 Records, Vancouver)

Jay Micheal - One of the founding members of Area709 from Calgary Jay Michaels diverse sounds have been heard consistently at most every major event and festival across western Canada and the United states over the last 5 years. Jay Michael has played at Diversity, Motion Notion, Shambhala, Entheos, Emrgnsee, Earthdance, Greenmoon Burningman and many many more. Also founding Ionic Productions last year Jay Michael has produced the events Alliance with Soldiers of the Underground and the sold out event Ecliptic featuring Australia's psytrance master Sensient of Zenon records.Ionic Productions owns and opperates a beautiful sounding RCF 4PRO sound system. Working with fellow Area709 artist Anahata (nystagmus)and his upcoming 5.1 surround sound uptempo release Ionic Productions has produced 3 events indoor and outdoor in 5.1 surround sound.

RUSTY EZARD (Area709 Records, Calgary)

A true veteran, Rusty started dj’ing in Toronto over 10 years ago playing psytrance, holding down the very successful bi-weekly residency aptly titled Audio Enforcement for over two years. Moving to Alberta in 2002, Rusty quickly found a home with Area709 and has since played many events in and around Calgary as well as the Motion Notion festival for three years running. With a likeness towards the Nano records psytrance label, Rusty's brand of psytrance is nothing short of intense and pounding accented with melodic elements.

WES STRAUB (Area709, Calgary)

Wes has developed into one of Alberta's brightest up and coming progressive djs. Besides playing various events in Calgary and holding down his extremely successful Pure.Prog monthly residency at the Amsterdam Rhino (in Calgary), he has also fostered an international following through online radio and with subsequent bookings in Ibiza, Mexico and at Shambhala in 2006. Wes's sound has grown from early trance influences into a rich and diverse blend of deep progressive trance; often difficult to categorize and unique in the way it's mixed.

CORY ZARADUR (Area709 Records, Calgary)

'Zaradur' means mind in the heart body, which is exactly what Cory brings into his music. A blending of the mind elements through a heartfelt musical experience. Playing a wide spectrum of idm sounds while incorporating recordings from the surrounding environment. Cory has worked extensively with Seed of Life, and most recently now with Area709.

SHAUN FRIESEN

In 2003 Shaun Friesen received his BFA with distinction from the Alberta College of Art and Design in the Media Arts and Digital Technologies program, and has been honing his skills as a digital ninja ever since. Launching Free Zen Design in 2005, he combines art and design to support conscious business development, artists and arts organizations, musicians and educators. Interested in living bio-mimetic designs, Shaun’s technology infused drawing practice investigates the organic and geometric.
