As is often the case life for me is in constant fluctuation, in all areas and at all times. I have found that adjusting to being home after our big 9 month trip last year has taken much longer than I ever would have thought, and it is only now, 10 months after getting back, that I am finally starting to get grounded.
I can't really put my finger on the reasons why, but I know that for me a part of it has to do with the fact that ignorance is bliss and our trip certainly filled my mind with much to think about... it's in the thinking that I at times find myself stuck in a rut. I let my mind think about things that I have no control over while my immediate surroundings go neglected. It really is a struggle for me sometimes to be able to focus on my own immediate environment by addressing all the small, positive, and easily achievable things that can be done throughout the day.
One of the things I have put on hold for many months now has been my music, and I am happy to say that I am finally feeling motivated and excited again. I have even finally taken on the big step to begin to produce which I have been waffling about for many years now. For some reason the time was never quite right but as of 2010 I am officially committed to giving it an honest effort. It helps to have so many talented people around to give me tips and I would be a fool to pass up their assistance.
Also in the works is a side project with Matte Gillard aka Anahata. We are putting our heads and skills together, and we figure that with our 20+ years combined experience (me as a dj and he as a producer/performer) that we should be able to put on a killer show at least once this summer. Our idea is to combine playing tracks while incorporating original layers, loops and samples along with manipulating the entire thing more in the manner of a live performance. The two of us on one laptop with numerous midi controllers. So far we are just sorting out tracks that we both like, and hammering out the details of how we will be utilizing the software. It will be a fun process and a great way to learn more about a different way of performing.
As for mixes, I have just finished one off for Wes Straub's radio show: 709Sessions and once it has aired I will post it up on Area709. It's driving progressive house mix that leans towards the techno end of things in places. I am pretty happy with how it turned out and it sounds fantastic in the car. Other mixes on the go are the Sons Of Aurora Motion Notion 2009 mix from last summer, as well as the Bardo mix from Halloween 2009, and I also have a huge folder of progressive psy that is begging to be put into one super-long continuous mix for those multi-hour round trips ahead.
Summer festival season is also booking up, and it's nice to be reminded of warm summer nights in the middle of winter. =) Lots to keep me busy indeed.
