Progress Report 2011

Posted on Aug 26, 2011

I can't believe that September is just around the bend. They say time flies when you're having fun, well this certainly holds true here as I have been having an absolute blast. Not to say that my time here in Montreal has been easy. Quite the contrary - it has provided me (and my wife Colleen) with more challenges to overcome than most people would be comfortable with. But with love and perseverance, you can get by just about anywhere I believe. After all, we knew what we were in for when we chose the 'poor artist' lifestyle!

I had an absolute blast playing at both El Hal and OpenMind this summer! Both festivals offered something very unique, and had a very intimate vibe in thier own ways. I was actually quite nervous for both sets - at El Hal I completely forgot my computer's power cord in Montreal, and without the time to drive back I had to play the entire performance off the battery power. To make things worse - my Novation controller runs solely on USB power - I was absolutely certain the whole thing would power down mid-set! Well, half-way through I made myself forget about it, and had fun regardless. Relief isn't strong enough a word to due my feelings justice when it went off without a hitch. Thanks Universe! OpenMind was much more of a hippy vibe, so playing a set of techno after a weekend long of psytrance was a bit intimidating. However people seemed to like the shift if tempo and mood, and had the place rocking in no time. It was a very magickal afternoon, and I am very grateful to have been a part of it all.

For upcoming gigs I have a few exciting announcements. First of all I will be playing a very intimate party in Montreal on Thanksgiving Sunday, called Local Heroes. Best of all (in my opinion) is that the party is a heroes and villains theme! Anyone that truly knows me knows that I am a complete comic book nerd :) Then the following weekend I will be playing at the Logic Vision Meets Zenon Records event in Montreal, featuring the man behind the Zenon sound, Sensient. Tim has been a huge influence of mine for several years, and loved seeing the Zenon style infiltrate the global trance scene bit by bit. Playing this event is truly a dream for me. Next month has been crossing the border for NYC to play another Zenoneque event featuring Grouch (NZ). This will be hosted by the SYNC crew, who are responsible for the best underground psy parties in the New York area. Very excited to check out the Big Apple for the first time!

More news coming soon. hint - Zombies!
