Well I have recently received a few comments from people about Conduktor vs The Unmade Sound disks. First of all I would like to say thank you to those who have sent messages.
Some feel that I should spend my time writing only down tempo and others think trance is the end all - be all. I have had several people approach me from both sides... so I just wanted to clarify...
It's a sort of weird spot to be put in - I wanted to release both disks together so I wouldn't be thought of as a one trick pony. Get the trancers to expand their interests a little, and get the downtempo artists to hear what I feel is the best of psy and progressive together.
I understand that everyone has preference (aside form the Buddha of course...) With downtempo there tends to be a lot more room for exploration and expansion... or even perhaps "spirituality"... however - you may only do 1/10th as many shows... or do many shows and be utterly and completely bored with the introspection.... it's unfortunate because I find downtempo extremely easy to write.
Trance on the other hand follows certain rules - they can be bent.. but they must always exist in one way or another... it limits me and therefore forces me to rethink a ridged structure... I personally find it the most challenging music to write, I am offered prime slots, have a larger audience, generally have more fun.... especially in 5.1 surround sound... oh and I get paid considerably better...
I am not saying one is better - rather that they are completely different universes and should be seen as such.
Chill is boring - Trance all sounds the same - I disagree... They are both wonderful in the proper set and setting... anyways...
The next project I'm work on will NOT be either - because I can see that I have been catering to 2 different scenes - and it's time I simply made what I want to make - to create something that does not follow the rules - something that no one else is doing - something that could only be properly performed live - something completely unDJable. This next project is just for me... I need this challenge... I can not force myself to hack out another disk of the same... I'll go crazy.
